The Merry Dancers, February 2014

These photos do not do the display justice.  It was the best I have seen in over twenty years.  In fact I think it was even better than the last major display I saw in 1992, when I lived in Orkney.  I’ve seen them since, several times – but not like this.

The sky was dancing and shimmering – white, blue, green, violet, red.  At one point I actually turned my camera south to take photos, they were everywhere. It is the first time I really wished I had a digital SLR.  None of these photos have had any post-production work, and bear in mind they were not taken from a dark-sky site, but from a town. View them here on Flickr, in larger resolution.
