Friday Photo #8 View From My Door

This photograph was (and probably still is) the most reblogged and liked on my tumblr account. I haven’t really used tumblr properly for some years now (which is scary, realising that it is now years). When I recently looked in many of the people I used to talk to, whose posts and photos I’d love, have vanished, in much the same way as I did.

I still have a tumblr here, detailing the first occasion I experienced an extended period of time (three months) out in the wilder parts of western Scotland. This photo shows the view from the door of the shelter I constructed that Autumn, and refined the following Fall.

I miss this view. I miss being out in wild places and cooking on a fire, watching wildlife close up and seeing no other human for days or weeks.

Moss covered slopes in western Scotland, tall oak trees and boulders line them - taken from my wilderness tumblr.
Trees and moss and green. The shiny part is a sea loch down below where I lived. Sometimes white tailed sea eagles would lazily coast below me, at others their golden cousins would circle as I went to the “toilet”. Everything was damp, everything felt like it was connected, growing. I was connected to the land in a way few people experience in our modern “civilised” world.
