    About...

    Me

Short version: I write stories, sometimes true, often not. I travel the world, trying to learn as much about nature, bushcraft, and humanity as possible, then I write about it, adding sampled flavour and spice to my imagination. Long version, click here.

    This Site

An introduction to what you can expect on this site, in essay form. Short version: many things, and varied.

    Disclosure/Privacy

Full disclosure, cookie information, comment and privacy policy. All the boring but important legal stuff we must cloak ourselves within. With some pretty photos because, if you're going to read this, you deserve some joy. Expect details of affiliate schemes, general kindness, and so on and so forth.

    Blog

Essentially, this is the beating heart of the site; a place where you can find each and every post, search through the different categories and see popular tags.

The latest posts will be here, as will old posts. It is a good place to start, in order to see the variety of topics I cover. Some old posts may still need a little reformatting, but they should be readable.

    My Fiction

I have been writing stories for as long as I can remember.

These tales are varied in content and form; they always have been and always will be. I like poetry, I like novellas, I like great sweeping epics and I like micro-fiction. And anything in between and beyond.

At present, the bulk of my fiction writing effort is broadly split between three series. The Greater Good and the Lesser Evil are two of these, whilst the third remains an anonymous secret, for Reasons.

    The Greater Good

Click here to read about The Greater Good, a series of stories that feature Orkney (above), deep history, prehistory, mysterious pasts a-plenty, some magic, some kindness, some cruelty, and a very old lady who may even be older than she appears.

    The Lesser Evil

And click here to read about The Lesser Evil; a fantasy series set in a world as complex as ours, with characters who will stay with you long after you put the book down, events that suck you into the narrative and, above all, stories that engage you and hold you in their metaphorical arms. At times this is a gentle hug, at others a fierce embrace.
  • True Stories

    True Stories

True stories do not always mean they are the truth. The truth is relative, after all. These are tales that are neither outright fiction nor travel writing. They fit somewhere and everywhere in between — everything else left behind, hidden in the cracks or sitting out in plain sight. Expect thoughts and musings. Expect me to have my own opinion. Expect subjects I love.

    Nature and Bushcraft

    Nature

A home for my nature writing.

    Bushcraft

The ancient skills and knowledge needed to live in the wilderness. Not just survive, but flourish.

    A Fall in Time

The tale of how I left my last "proper" job and walked out into the wilderness alone, for months.

  • Travel

    Perhaps I lied a little...

...because there will be travel writing on Not A Travel Writer. Also, note the deliberate choice of "travel writing" over "travel blogging". I shall go into more detail about this difference soon.

    Places

Locations, locales, dots on the map and the lines between. Mostly places that exist, but perhaps also some that are only to be found in the mind, or story.

    Resources

Not just gear reviews, but also links to places I think are useful, books to read, guides by yours truly and other marvels.
  • Contact

    Find Me, Say Hello

Although I am not in as many places on the internet as I used to be, click here to find out where I can be located, then say hello, like, follow, tweet, repin; whatever and whichever action you would like to take. I really do appreciate it, thank you.

    Work With Me

This is the place for all professional queries. Click for more information and I shouldn't have to say it but no, I don't work for free.

This is the last in this queue of autumnal photos from Dunbeath Strath. I hope you have enjoyed them! (This is also my favourite, I think.)
